Soothing Voice

Most every night as we're laying down to go to sleep is when our little chickadee decides its time to wake up. Some nights she's not too bad, but most of the time she acts like a little tempest, giving my insides quite the thrashing. Needless to say it's rather hard to fall asleep when I've got a little person tap dancing around inside. I've tried all sorts of things to try and calm her down, changing positions, getting up and walking around, going to the bathroom, getting a drink, talking to her, rubbing my stomach...nothing worked.

Until one night when I was fed up with it and Alan was being kept awake by my constant rolling around, he decided it was time for a little heart to heart. He crawled under the covers, laid his head on my tummy and very sweetly explained to our daughter that this was bedtime and that it was time to sleep and that we all needed to get some sleep and she needed to start learning now that at nighttime we sleep, and on and on. For the first time ever she settled down and I was able to fall asleep. Now every night when she starts up her little tantrum, all it takes is a little conversation from Alan and she lets me sleep.

That is so sweet, Sarah! I haven't seen you in forever, and I just found your blog through facebook. It's fun to hear what you're up to!

What a nice daddy! I hope he can still calm her with his father-daughter chats after she is born. :)
