Visiting the Butterflies

This weekend we took the girls out to see some butterflies. We have a local butterfly conservatory that allows the public to walk around the butterfly enclosure during the summer months.

Elsie on the bridge over the stream. Here she is making a wish on her penny...
And dropping it in. Alice had the best aim; she hit one of the giant Koi fish right on the head with her penny.

Elsie tried really hard to get one to land on her finger, but it didn't happen. Right as she gave up a butterfly landed on her shoulder. She was pretty excited.
Despite all of the butterflies flitting around, Alice's favorite thing was the bridge and stream. She was content to stand and watch the fish for as long as we let her.
Riding on a giant leaf...? Kind of a weird structure.

We ate a quick lunch outside to give the girls a little energy boost.
I don't know what these were (airplane? jet?), but several of them flew over us while we were eating lunch and they were very loud.
We walked around the outdoor gardens to fill out our "butterfly passports". There were five stations we had to get to with a stamp at each of them.

Give it up to our three year old photographer Elsie for taking this shot of Alan and I.

Each of the girls received a coupon for a free frozen custard cone for finishing their butterfly passports. After long naps and dinner, we walked down the street to our local frozen custard shop to redeem them.

What a fun outing! I'm especially digging the ice cream right now...

Alice does have great aim! Probably couldn't do that with 1000 pennies! wowee!

ps. you should let Katie know that frozen custard and ice cream are not equivalent... :)
